Since January 2023, all employees have a right to 3 days sick pay per year. Many employers are still unaware of this or have not updated their Contracts of Employment/Employee Handbook to reflect current statutory entitlements.

Statutory sick pay is paid at 70% of an employee’s normal pay up to a maximum of €110 per day for 3 days per year. This is due to increase to 5 days in 2024, 7 days in 2025 and 10 days in 2026.

It is subject to and conditional upon a valid medical certificate being furnished by the employees.
